HUB YEAR END 2019
Praise and thanksgiving to God our Father. The Altoona District Mission Central HUB an extension of Mission Central in Mechanicsburg has another year of working here and around the world.
We are in our 12th year of helping support anyone that has been affected by disasters or poverty. Some of our kits that are prepared and shipped from our HUB go through Mission Central in Mechanicsburg and then onto UMCOR or distributed directly from Mission Central.
The HUB has had 909 volunteers with a total of 1667.5 hours this past year. We are also very fortunate to have committed hostesses.
Our kits that were assembled this year are as follows: 41 cleaning buckets, 293 baby care kits, 1295 school kits, 1353 hygiene kits, these have an accumulated estimated value of $42,346. The estimated total of supplies sent to MC ARE $5,500. Local distributions of different items have an estimated value of $9,965. The grand total for 2019 is $61,181; this added to our previous total of $725,033; makes our contributions $786,214. These totals are only possible through our trust and guidance by God and by the generosity of our volunteers, donations and churches. We now have given a total of 737 jean quilts with an estimated value of $36,850. The need for continuing to add to our jean quilts is having people volunteer to sew them. Thank you to all that have stepped up to help with that ministry.
If anyone or group would like to complete any of the above kits info can be found at missioncentral.org and drop them off at the HUB.
Kits sent to UMCOR: School kits, hygiene kits, and cleaning buckets
Nonstandard kits are also important to our mission work. We have distributed to 300 local outreach areas to 90 different ministries. Some of the places that benefited are shelters, nursing homes, churches, the food kitchen and church programs. Our help supporting the different homeless ministries has increased.
Our annual fundraiser of blueberries netted 1,331 boxes; up from last year. We were able to tithe $1,500.00 to MC. The profit from this yearly fundraiser usually keeps us going until the next July but this year we are really short on funds. The HUB has purchased more supplies this past year and that has really cut into our funds. We are in great need of funds and ask that you prayerfully consider donating supplies or money to buy supplies. Donations are greatly needed so please help us out. Consider a fundraiser or special collection if possible.
We have an advance number from the Conference (#4060) and people that send money directly to MC should enter that number and then those funds will be sent to the Altoona HUB. It takes longer for those funds to be released and so we encourage that any donations be sent directly to the HUB so that they will be received for immediate use.
We encourage groups to set up a time to volunteer if our regular hours don’t work for them. We have had new faces this year. Along with volunteers making kits come the need for more supplies. We are blessed to and encourage monetary donations and supply donations to help us. Gail Montgomery is anxiously waiting to schedule your volunteering visit.
A sincere thank you to the HUB team and all the volunteers. Our hostesses and volunteers would like to make a special thank you to Barbara Glass, Site coordinator and Gail Montgomery, volunteer coordinator for all the dedicated and extras work they do to keep this ministry open. We continue to be truly blessed in this ministry and God continues to open doors for us.
Respectfully,
Marti Shiffler, Secretary
